Classroom environment
In our Bee Explorers class we aim to provide a safe, happy and engaging learning environment that allows our children to learn through a combination of purposeful play and adult interaction. We have half-termly topics that we follow and each week we have a focus text linked to this. We also follow children’s interests to shape the learning.
We use a free-flow approach during continuous provision time. Children are encouraged to access our wonderful outdoor areas as much as possible throughout the day. We have plenty of waterproofs and wellington boots for the children so no bad weather spoils our play!
Communication
Please sign up to Class Dojo to keep up to date with the latest class news and events.
We will post photos to your child’s portfolio on the Class Dojo app, which only you and staff can see. It is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s WOW moments during their time with us.
This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom. Class Dojo is a website which can be accessed on a computer or laptop, and also on any Apple or Android device such as a tablet or smart phone. Parents are also able to upload their own photographs and videos, as well as comment on observations added from school.
Please do take advantage of this feature as the children enjoy sharing their home experiences with their peers and we love to see what they have been up to outside of school!
Reading
We follow the Little Wandle scheme for reading. Children read 3 times a week in their guided reading groups.
We have reading for pleasure books to be shared with an adult at home to enjoy together.
Please read with your child at home for at least 10 minutes each day to help develop their decoding, fluency and comprehension skills. Please write a comment and sign in your child’s yellow reading record when you have read with them. If you need any help with how to support your child with reading at home, please speak to a member of staff.
P.E
This half-term our PE days are every Tuesday morning (Nursery and Reception) and Thursday afternoon (Reception only).
Please ensure your child comes to school on this day wearing their PE uniform.
Forest Friday
Each week we will take part in Forest School activities in the morning. For many children this becomes the favourite part of the week. Basing our activities upon a story each week, we get kitted up and spend the morning outdoors. We encourage children to find out about the outside world, creatures and habitats, explore using their senses and use natural materials to make pictures or dens etc.
Stay and Play
Every half term we run a ‘Stay and Play’ session where parents and carers are invited into class for a fun themed play session with the children. These last around 1 hour. Please check on Class Dojo for dates regarding these.
